In 1991, the band Jodeci released their hit song "Forever My Lady," and that year, 13 girls and 14 boys got named Jodeci. While never a hugely popular name (the most babies named in one year was 77 for girls and 94 for boys, in 1992), it has managed to be given to babies all the way through to 2023. In the SSA database, there have been 399 little girl and 424 boy Jodecis born altogether.
The name for the band is a mashup of the names of its members: K-Ci, JoJo, and the DeGrate brothers, known as DeVante Swing and Mr. Dalvin.
While there have been lots of babies named after musicians and bands (e.g., Cobain (Kurt), Zeppelin (Led), Jagger (Mick), none of the names have stuck around as long as Jodeci!
